VSADC: Just
a little longer

Football
enthusiasts within the City of Castries and
environs will have to wait a little longer for
the thrill, excitement and football skills at
its highest to unfold at the Vigie Playing Field.
The Vempers Sports Athletic Dramatic Club (VSADC)
has indicated to the SLFA, CFC, St. Lucia Referees
Association, participating Clubs, Sponsors,
and family of Michael Fedee that the 3rd Annual
Michael Fedee Memorial Football Tournament that
is normally held around this time of year has
been rescheduled tentatively for the month of
September, 2010.
This is according to a release coming from the
club based on the completion of works and readiness
of the Vigie Playing Field as well as authorization
from the Castries Football Council Management
Committee for the facility.
VSADC Tournament Committee decided that due
to the uncertainty of upgrading and surfacing
works at the VPF, which is on hold presently
because of the severe drought that is being
experienced on the island it would be best to
reschedule the tournament.
The tournament that originated in 2008 after
the passing of the club’s former President
and honorary member has been a success over
the past two years; and in the process it has
revived football in Central Castries after a
dull period. The tournament has regenerated
participation and friendly rivalry among the
traditional CFC affiliated clubs, provided the
large crowds at the grounds with good quality
football, as well as assisted with the Central
Castries Team best performance thus far in the
2008 Black Heart Knock - Out Tournament and
provided some impetus with the formation of
the new vibrant Castries Football Council headed
by Francis “Parry” Daniel.

To date the club has come
to the realization that moving the tournament
to another venue at this time, would lose
the traditional sporting atmosphere associated
with the Vigie Playing Field, as well as the
satisfaction and values which the players,
sponsors and fans are accustomed to and have
enjoyed over the years.
This year MFMFT will feature the top six (6)
clubs, from last year’s CFC league competition
namely; Lancers FC, VSADC, FC Pioneers, Spartans,
Faux A Chaux and Nyah, instead of the traditional
top four (4) that played previously. The six
(6) clubs will play each other in a one (1)
round robin format, instead of the two (2)
rounds which the four clubs played previously.
The traditional Soccerama will again kick
off the tournament, to be followed by the
Championship Round Robin format and then the
Knock - Out Competition to conclude.
VSADC Tournament Committee and Club Executive
are continuing the planning and organization
of the tournament and are optimistic that
the stakeholders will lend their support once
again and that all will go well for the hosting
of another successful MFMFT, tentatively scheduled
for September, 2010.”
Interestingly in the 2009 SLFA male under
- 19 tournament that was concluded recently
in Soufriere Central Castries went down to
the home team on penalty kicks in the finals,
while the senior men team lost to an energetic
Micoud team 5 -2 in the finals of the Inter
District Senior Men’s Tournament that
was played at the Wenn Playing Field in Mon
Repos.
