Cricket: Choiseul wins Under-15 school Tournament

With no sign of rain in the distance and the fall of wickets at regular intervals, following a 25 run opening partnership, saw the Micoud Secondary School struggled to reach the target of 157, in the final of the 2009 Secondary School Under-15 Cricket Tournament played at the Dennery Cricket Ground.
Sanjay Bastien top scored with 29 not out, Nickles Sealyse made 24 and Denver Charles chipped in with 15, in what one can consider a disappointing 108 all out in 21 overs, as the batsmen found life difficult to adapt to the dry conditions which were exploited by the opposition’s bowlers.
St. Lucia national Under-15 off-spinner Vince Smith tore through the batting to finish with 7 for 46 off nine overs, with Clem St. Rose picking up 2 for 22, and Shanai Mesmin 1 for 17 for the Choiseul Secondary School. Fall of wickets :- 1 for 25, 2 for 38, 3 for 38, 4 for 39, 5 for 52, 6 for 55, 7 for 55, 8 for 65, 9 for 102, all out for 108; inclusive of five extras as Choiseul won by 48 runs, and the title.
Earlier the Micoud Secondary School won the toss and invited the Choiseul team to take first knock.

They exerted steady pressure on the batsmen, but the bowlers allowed their concentration to stray, and were guilty of conceding too many extras, which was the high individual total on the score sheet – 35 made of 3 leg-byes and 32 wides.
Shanai Mesmin top-scored for Choiseul with 32, Vince Smith contributed 24, and Tevin Biscette made 13, as Choiseul Secondary went on to post 156 in 31 overs. Bowling for Micoud, Sivius Stephen bagged 3 for 24, Jamal Lesmond 3 for 34, Vergel Theodule 2 for 44, and Sanjay Bastien 1 for 18; as the Micoud Secondary School’s bowlers made the batsmen toil in the humid conditions. Fall of wickets 1 for 20, 2 for 45, 3 for 52, 4 for 96, 5 for 107, 6 for109, 7 for 109, 8 for 124, 9 for 154, and all out for 156.
The Micoud Secondary School camp was happy with the work in the field, but the response with the bat quickly took the joy away, as Choiseul took home the lion’s share of awards, including the Man of the Match award which went to Vince Smith.
