Moto X: Wonderful event, says Minister for Communication and Works
Anthony De Beauville

It is pretty amazing how time passes by. St.Lucia recently celebrated 31 years of Independence and in the process the St.Lucia Moto Cross Association again staged one of its thrilling, breathtaking and exciting activities on its calendar for 2010 in the Cul de Sac valley where a mammoth crowd made its presence felt and so too did the Moto X number one fun Minister for Communications and Works Guy Joseph.
For those present certainly the cloud of dust that covered the area never seemed to be a problem as all eyes were glued to the track where they took in the action exhibited by the visiting French riders as they turned on the heat versus our very own St. Lucians.
Taking time out to speak to this reporter was Minister for Communication and Works Guy Joseph who said, “I think this is a wonderful event being put on by the Moto X Club. When you get groups or associations putting on events of this nature going on their own without any formal government support and venturing into programmes like this to make our Anniversary of Independence Celebration a success, I think it is a wonderful move and it is one that says this sport has a great future and potential in St. Lucia.”
“As a Minister of Government this event has been shifted from one venue to the next on a number of occasions, one can safely say from Pigeon Island in the north now to Cul De Sac in South Castries, are you saying that the Moto X Club has finally received a home?” Joseph replied, “Definitely, with the number of young people involved, the potential and the advancement in the sport I believe we need to find a permanent home for sporting activities of this nature.

We have seen a move from the traditional Cricket and Football and we have seen people venturing into other sporting disciplines, I think this is a wonderful sporting discipline, but as a government we must give the necessary support so that they can find a permanent home where they can operate. When we talk about sports Tourism, I think we have great potential in this sport.”
“The crowd continues to build, similar to that of a last lap jump up, with the excitement at a all time high. Are you satisfied with what you have seen to date? With his usual smile, Joseph openly said, “If it were not for the Drag Wars in the south of the island the Moto X Club would have had a record number of enthusiasts. This is the biggest I have seen to date and that gives the true picture.”
Interestingly Minister Guy Joseph went on to say, “What we are looking to do, is to see if we can establish a centre, a permanent home where we could have all the various forms of racing, whether it is for the Moto X Club and for the Drag Wars, with the facilities to accommodate each different sporting activity.”
The dust would have finally invaded our space, so the Minister had the final word when he went on to congratulate the Moto X Club on what they had done. “It is an event we look forward to at our Independence celebrations and thank the overseas riders for gracing us with their presence once more. It truly tells me that we are doing well in this sport and the club needs a whole lot of support from the government,”he said.
