Windward
Islands School Games this weekend

It’s
just hours away before the Opening Ceremony
of the 2010 Windward Islands School Games, scheduled
to be held in St. Lucia from July 24th –
August 02, 2010,. All is ready to host the scores
of students and officials.
From each island will come a contingent of 48,
inclusive of 40 athletes and 8 officials, and
they will be housed at the Gros-Islet Secondary
School for the duration of the Games.

Already the Games
Village accommodation inclusive of showers
and catering has been tested by the members
of the Saint Lucia team this past weekend,
and passed with flying colours.
The Beausejour Indoor Facility will host the
Male and Female basketball, netball, and volleyball
matches, with football to be played at the
Gros-Islet Playing Field, the Mindoo Philip
Park, and or the Vigie Playing Field.
Interestingly if all goes according to plan,
one of the initiatives for this year’s
Games will be the playing of football under
lights at the Gros-Islet Playing Field; if
the lights have been energized in time. Officials
of the Department of Youth and Sports in Saint
Lucia are confident this will be done.
The George Odlum Stadium at Vieux-Fort will
host the Opening Ceremony and Track and Field
Championships. A number of officials from
the four island Governments, the sponsors
in Canadian Bank Note, the Lottery Authorities
of the four islands, are expected to be at
the Stadium for the Opening Ceremony.
