Four National Records at CAC Games

Competing in the 21st CAC Games in Mayaguez Puerto Rico at the Mayaguez aquatic complex, St Lucia’s Danielle Beaubrun placed fourth in the female 100M Breaststroke with a new National Record of 1:12.30 seconds.
Interestingly the 100M Breast Final was won by Jamaican speedster Alia Atkinson who swam a new CAC record time of 1:10.25 followed by Mexico’s Aligrina Medina (1:10.80) and Byanca Rodriquez (1:10.96).
Beaubrun broke two national records in one event as her first 50M of that event set a new standard of 33.22 seconds. Earlier in the day at the 100M breaststoke preliminaries, she swam a 33.29 in the 50m split to establish an earlier National Record and placed 4th of the 21 swimmers
The result was an improvement on the 200M Breast where she placed 9th in the preliminaries, Danielle was down to compete in her favorite 50M Breast on Friday but up to press time there was no word coming from the St.Lucia camp in Mayaguez as to her performance.
Also saw in action was Runako Daniel who swam a respectable 1:03.63 in the 100M Fly.

Meanwhile, for the third time this year, national swimmer Danielle Beaubrun reset the National Record in the 200M Breaststroke with a new standard of 2:43.28. Competing on Day 1 at the Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) in Mayaguez Puerto Rico, Beaubrun swam in Heat one of three, placing 9th overall of 21 swimmers, just missing out on the Finals but will attend the evening session as an alternate. She then looks forward to her more favoured events, the 100M Breast on 20th July and 50M Breast on the 23rd July
Also competing on Day 1 at the morning preliminaries were young Runako Daniel and Julien Brice who both swam the 100M Free. While placing 32nd and 33rd respectively of the 33 swimmers with times of 56.57 and 57.05, it was the first outing at this level of regional competition for Runako Daniel while Julien Brice will be looking forward to his preferred events, the 50M Free and 50M Fly later this week
Day 2 of the CAC Games saw the fourth member of the team Siona Huxley in action in her favorite event, the 50M backstroke. Siona found the going tough and swam a 31.45 to place 16th of the 25 swimmers. That time is well below her best time in this event and she may be tiring from her grueling schedule for the year.
