Makeba Alcide starts on a high note in the USA

St. Lucia’s 2009 CARIFTA silver medallist, Makeba Alcide got her collegiate career underway. Makeba, a University of Arkansas freshman, was competing in the indoor Pentathlon, the first day of the Razorback Invitational in the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Makeba joined the Razorbacks in January of 2010.

 
 

Competing in her first collegiate Pentathlon and first collegiate competition, the St. Joseph’s Convent graduate finished fifth overall with 3,318 points. She recorded marks of 9.16 seconds in the 60 metre Hurdles, 1.59 metres in the High Jump, 10.66 metres in the Shot Put (second overall), and 4.87 metres in the Long Jump and finished with a time of 2 minutes 35:93 seconds in the 800 metres
Fellow freshman Leah Orley won the event for Arkansas, ranked No. 17 for women’s track and field in Division 1 of the National Collegiate Athletics Association. Orley won her first collegiate pentathlon with 3,666 points. Her score leads the SEC and ranks No. 4 in the NCAA. She was just off the NCAA provisional points of 3,725.
