Good News
for Chess in St. Lucia
More
good news for the NCF and Chess in St.Lucia,
on Monday 25th January 2010 the National Community
Foundation received a grant totaling $11,080.00
from the St Lucia Social Development Fund towards
support of the NCF Chess in school programme
targeting disadvantaged children in St.Lucia.
As part of the NCF’s objective of expanding
the game of chess the NCF has organized a Chess
Training week scheduled to commence today Tuesday
26th to Friday 29th January 2010 at the Castries
City Hall. According to the NCF this training
will be facilitated by the United States Chess
Federation consultant, Jerry Nash and is targeted
towards schools, the private and public sector.The
Chess in School Programme was designed with
the following objectives; develop critical thinking
skills, build self-esteem, engender discipline,
foster positive social skills, promote academic
achievement and empower children to succeed.
Monday’s cheque was presented by the HOPE
Manager, Darnel Bobb to the Executive Director,
Juliana Alfred of the NCF, while Jerry Nash,
US Chess consultant delivered brief remarks
at this event.
The NCF is a philanthropic, nonprofit organization
which functions primarily as a grant making
institution. The NCF has been able to sustain
its support to vulnerable persons through partnerships
with the private and public sector.
