“JUST BRING IT”

With less than 100 days to go before the start of the ICC World Twenty20 West Indies 2010, Tournament, the theme is “Just Bring It”. So said Tournament Director Robert Bryan to signal the celebration at the Beausejour Cricket Ground in St.Lucia on Wednesday morning as the momentum shifts gears to host the blockbuster cricket event.
Present at Wednesday’s ceremony were St.Lucia’s Minster for Youth and Sports Lenard Montoute, President of the West Indies Cricket Board Dr. Julian Hunte, Tournament Director Robert Bryan, Cricket Operation Manager for St.Lucia Vaughn Charles, Sumitra Jagroop Cooperate Officer for ICC Twenty20. Also present were Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Joanna Reynolds Atherton, representatives of Sports St.Lucia Inc, representative of the St.Lucia Tourist Board, representative of St.Lucia National Cricket Association, members of the Project team and media personnel.
Speaking to the media at the BCG Tournament Director Robert Bryan said, “Coming into 2010 we have seen increased interest in the tournament with more fans enquiring about and indeed buying tickets. They realise that we are just three months away from the biggest Twenty20 party and there is a lot more talk and excitement about ICC WT20”
He further went on to say, “We have the best in international cricket coming to the West Indies for two weeks of riveting action in men’s and women’s cricket, fans don’t want to miss.
“Later this month there will be a final venue inspection to ensure that all elements of preparation are progressing as they should be and to check out the venues and the renovations that are being done to make them ready for match day,. We are pleased with how things have been going and we expect to deliver a superb, world –class spectacle of which the West Indies can be proud of.” Bryan stated.

Interestingly, following his short update on the work presently taking place and other logistics for the event, government officials, WICB President, and members of the media were invited to tour the BCG and to see the ongoing upgrading of the facilities including the two additional dressing rooms.
“The ICC WT20 Project Team has been working closely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as Sports St.Lucia Inc to bring the BCG up to the required standard. What you see here began last November and is scheduled to be finished by the end of January 2010” explained Robert Bryan.

The Tournament Director informed members of the media that one of the unique features of the ICC WT20 tournament is that double – headers will be on all match days. This necessitates the simultaneous use of four dressing rooms. As we know, standard cricket grounds across the Caribbean have two dressing rooms and this has meant that two additional dressing rooms had to be built here at the BCG.
The new third and fourth dressing rooms are currently being constructed on the second floor of the Vieux –Fort Players Pavilion. One of these dressing rooms has been completed while work has begun on the other and this should be done by mid – February.
The many persons present including West Indies Cricket Board President Dr. Julian Hunte, and Minister of Youth and Sports Lenard Montoute, were also given update on the pitch and field and general refurbishment of the BCG.
