21st January 2010
Crusaders South Castries 20/20 Champs

The Dennery Playing Field was the place to be at the weekend where it was excitement and numerous towering sixes were the order of the two day festival as the 2009 South Castries Cricket Association Twenty20 cricket competition came to a fitting climax with Crusaders defeating Mon Cisseaux by 92 runs.
Playing without their Captain Darren Sammy, who struck an unbeaten 109 versus Caffiere in the semi final on Saturday and Keddy Lesporis for the final, Crusaders were still able to chalk up 236 for the loss of 2 wickets. National player Mervin Wells’ brilliant 140 (10 x 6s, 11 x 4s) and Garey Mathurin’s 66 not out plundered the inexperienced Mon Cisseaux attack to all parts of the Dennery Playing Field as they keep the on their toes.

In reply, Mon Cisseaux was off to a brisk start racing to 61 off 4 overs, thanks largely to a thundery knock of 53 (5x6s, 4x4s) by former national opener Nigel Edwin. However, the dismissal of Edwin triggered a batting collapse and Mon Cisseaux were eventually dismissed for 144.
Bowling for Crusaders former national spinner Bryan Calixte bagged 4 for 22 and National female cricketer Tara Louis 2 for 23 did the damage. Sunday’s victory secured the 2009 title for Crusaders and their 4th title in the last six years.
Following the match, a brief prize giving ceremony was held. Crusaders and Mon Cisseaux received their winners and runners up prize monies respectively, compliments the District Representative – Hon Guy Joseph. South Castries Cricket Association President Eugena Gregg also took the opportunity to thank all who made the competition the success it was.
Meanwhile, South Castries Cricket Association and its affiliates is putting the final wheels in motion for the 2010 season that is expected to bowl off at the end of the January.
