20th Feburary 2010
City Boys vs Micoud in SLFA Final
Anthony De Beauville

It has already been dubbed as a mixed action packed 2009 – 2010 football season, as with less than 12 hours away the tournament finally draws to a close. The excitement is said to be building on the eastern side of the island with the staging of the SLFA Inter District Senior Men’s Final and third place play off that is scheduled for the Wenn Playing Field in the community of Mon Repos today Saturday 20th February, a first of its kind for that community.
In a slight alteration to the stipulated times the third place play off will start at 1:00 pm instead of 2:00 pm between Dennery and Marchard, while the Grande Finale will kick off promptly at 4:00 between Micoud and Central Castries as previously mentioned by the SLFA.
By the look of things one wonders whether its time for the Central Castries team to deliver under Head Coach Nigel James if they are to upset the odds to claim what would only be their first crown in an undisclosed number of years at a national tournament.
Interestingly still bubbling after their 2 - 0 win in their semi final leg of the championship, Micoud with home support behind them will start as favourites despite both teams looking evenly matched. But with the likes of Captain # 6 Nathan Justin, # 5 Andre Charlery, # 19 Kervin Augustin, # 7 Enderson George, # 16 Phillip Gaspard, # 14 Guy George, # 18 Cornel Evans, # 00 Gimma Mason, # 11 Andre Willie, # 17 Shane Paul, and # 9 Cornelius Butcher on their roster they will be coming out firing and will want nothing less than a win ahead of St.Lucia 31st Independence celebration.

The Central Castries team will be looking to up the tempo and work the ball around in the midfield area and score the many opportunities offered to them if they are to nose ahead of Micoud. The likes of # 5 Captain Germal Valcin, # 6 Shawn Kerton, # 8 Trevor Daniel, # 01 Arthur Langeiser, # 4 Nieve Denis, # 11 Steve Henry, # 17 Junior Samuel, # 7 Cliff Valcin, # 12 Valence Duncan, # 18 Leyd Prospere and # 15 Micheal Marshall will have it all cut out as a unit if left to them and the final whistle.
Micoud 59th minute substitute Shane Paul 78th and 90th minute goals were enough to settle the deal against neighbours Dennery to secure a berth into today’s final, but on the other side of the coin Central Castries will now need a big performance from their players on the afternoon if they need to overturn the drought of a national championship, The City Boys dressed in their customary blue and white outfit scraped into the final by the skin of their teeth after Marchand custodian squandered a sudden death penalty to give Central Castries a 7 – 6 win in fading light.
Carrying the official whistle in the encounter between Dennery and Marchand is Gordon Wilson, with Lewis Francis and Nigel Mathurin as his second and third assistant referee’s respectively, while Referee Giles Arthur will take charge on the square in the grand final between Central Castries and Micoud. Arthur will be assisted by Andre Phillip, Anthony John and Fitzgerald Popo. So it’s anyone’s guess as to which team will hoist the 2009 - 2010 SLFA Inter District Men’s Trophy and the $15,000.00 at stake.
