Micoud awaits City Boys Winner

Micoud will contest the St.Lucia Football Association Inter District Men’s Football Tournament final on Sunday 21st February after causing a major upset at the Wenn Playing Field in Mon Repos on Wednesday afternoon by inflicting another defeat on Dennery since the Blackheart Tournament in 2009 at the GOS.
Substitute player Shane Paul coming in for Conrod Evans in the 59th minute with the scores still locked at 0 - 0 wearing the # 17 for Micoud scored both goals to seal the victory and to set up a showdown against either Central Castries or Marchard at a venue to be confirmed by the SLFA.
Micoud, the much-admired team from the east coast presently has broken the record for consecutive victories over Dennery at the time when it really matters.
Dennery started brightly, while the Micoud goalkeeper Gimmia Mason found his goal under threat on a number of occasions within the first 20 minutes of play; but it was Micoud # 9 Cornelius Butcher’s powerful right shot from a free kick some 35 yards out who was just unable to convert at the far post when all the excitement started. Butcher’s shot was certainly the best seen during the first half. At the half time whistle of Referee Gordon Wilson the score remained 0 – 0.
One resumption both teams upped the tempo as the shadows stretched on the square, an indication of another beautiful sunset in the distance. Micoud decked in their all black outfit took the lead in the 78th minute from another free kick just outside the area.

Cornelius Butcher again hammered one to goal that came off the Dennery goalkeeper and into the laps of # 17 Shane Paul who made no mistake hitting it to the back of the nets to start the celebration. Micoud ‘s second goal which was the eventual winner came in the 90th minute again as Shane Paul doubled his scoring on the fourth official result sheet, this time with a low shot that beat the Dennery second string keeper.
It was a ding dong battle for procession. The Dennery team was under real pressure, and after Micoud skipper Nathan Justin had blazed a half-chance over the bar, at one stage the Micoud team in turn had a great chance to equalize but missed out on a header that came from a corner.
The Micoud custodian Mason produced a superb save to tip away Dennery’s effort, before Levi Gilbert fired just over the crossbar.
With time running out on the clock Dennery’s # 15 Hirum Hunte and # 2 Kurt Frederick tried their luck, while Donavan Sealy had a good shout for a penalty following a challenge from a Micoud player inside the area.
As Denney’s brief glimmer of hope faded away so too did the sunshine in the distance when Referee Gordon Wilson finally blews his whistle to signal the end of regulation time.
Today, Saturday 13th February the SLFA train will travel to the Community of Mon Repos for its second semi final match up this time in an all Castries derby. That is when highly fancied Central Castries is expected to leave no stone unturned when they take on Marchard in a City thriller scheduled for 4:00 pm at the Wenn Playing Field, provided that the goal posts remain intact.
