Levern wins
silver in Austria

Lucia and the region’s premiere high jumper
Levern Spencer placed second on Thursday 4th
February 2010 as she continued her European
indoor season tour. She was at the time competing
at the Tips Arena in Austria.
Spencer who came into the meet nursing an injury
which she sustained during her record equaling
effort two days ago in Sweden cleared a mark
of 1.85 metres which was good enough for a silver
medal.
She traveled to Germany on Friday 5th February
for her penultimate competition on this tour
which takes place today Saturday 6th February.
Her final competition will be on Wednesday 10th
February 2010 in Stockholm Sweden.
Meanwhile, Spencer has been short listed amongst
three other outstanding female athletes for
the prestigious title of Senior Sportswoman
for 2009, the other three individuals are Cricket
– Maria David, Volleyball – Dania
Hamilton, and the 2008 Beijing Olympian swimmer
Danielle Beaubrun.
In 2009 Spencer excelled at all levels; she
was the only athlete from Central America and
the Caribbean Region to qualify for the World
Championship in Germany. The sensational high
jumper won 5 gold, one silver and one bronze
medal with a memorable performance at the CAC
Senior Track and Field Championship which was
held in Cuba and successfully soared over the
bar at 1.91 metres and established a new National
Record. She is currently ranked number one in
the Caribbean and in addition is ranked in the
top twelve high jumpers in the world.
