G. I. Youth Football kicks off

The 2010 Gros Islet Youth Football Porgramme now into its third year will commence this Saturday 6th February at the Gros Islet Secondary School Grounds situated at Beausejour. Last weekend a meeting was held for all participants at the Gros Islet playing field. The program caters for young boys and girls between the ages of 5-15 years old who are interested in the sport of football while enhancing and developing their skills and talent.
Jennifer Gaston the Administrator of the program said, “The success of the program is due to the assistance of coaches who are led by Francis “Oats” Lastic, supporters and businesses that have also contributed to the program by not only providing opportunities to play football, but also towards the development of the youths in all aspects. Part of the program training also includes self development, attitude and behavior on and off the field, in order to improve their approach to life and their own personal development.”
Gaston has confirmed that the program is free to all participants after recognizing that the majority of the young interested children could not afford to pay registration fees. Therefore, she extended a big thank you to all who have come on board and given of their time and service on a voluntary basis, having recognized the impact of such contribution on the youths and the community of Gros Islet.

 
 

Gaston further went on to say, due to the closing of the Gros Islet Playing Field for the rehabilitation works for the upcoming ICC World Twenty/20 Cricket Tournament, effective today Saturday 6th February 2010 and all Saturdays after, all training will be done at the Gros Islet Secondary school Grounds situated at Beausejour from 9:00 am.
Meanwhile, the Gros Islet Youth Program received a quantity of football gear from German visitors who are holidaying in St. Lucia. Accompanying them is St. Lucia’s Regis Gustave who is the Golf Pro at the Waldeck Golf Club which is located just outside Frankfurt.
The group consisted of Hoost Kleinschmidt who is the Prisident of the Waldeck Football Team, Dirk Ostrowski, Angela Klima and Alstan Devage. Regis recalled meeting Gaston a few years ago and having a conversation with her about the Gros islet Youth Football Program. Following his return to Germany, Regis spoke to his friends who were more than willing to make a donation. They did just that last weekend near the Gros Islet Playing Field during a brief handing over ceremony.
Gaston who was accompanied by youth footballer Jardel Largen, is grateful for the generous donation and said. “The Gros Islet Youth Football Program relies on contributions like this to continue to be successful.”
