Training intensifies for National Players

The highlight of a tough weekend of training games was a hard fought 1 – 1 all draw with rivals Martinique on the weekend. A team blend with a mixture of National Senior and under- 20 players had several chances to win the game and was disappointed not to have come out on top at the final whistle.
Saturday’s draw against the French Federation members came just 48 hours after a 3 – 1 loss against the same opponents on Thursday. This weekend’s games form part of preparation for the 2010 Digicel Championship, which is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday 6th October.
Meanwhile, as part of the preparations a National Football Trial Open Day will be held on Saturday 4th September at the George Odlum Stadium in Vieux Fort commencing 1:00pm – 3:00 pm for all local players eligible for under -20 and the National Senior Men’s team will be held by the St. Lucia Football Association. Registration will open at 11:30 am and close at 12:30 pm sharp in preparation for the Trial.

All potential players should come prepared for a rigorous work out under the supervision of SLFA Technical Director Ces Podd.
This weekend’s schedule saw national team training intensify with four games in four days. As well as the two encounters with Martinique, the SLFA President’s Eleven defeated Micoud two nil on Sunday and Northern Stars by 4 – 0 to round off a tiring weekend at Gros Islet.
Training will resume midweek at Gros Islet under the new lights in advance of the open search for fresh talent on Saturday at the National Stadium.
“We wanted to test the guys fitness and the four games did that well,” said Ces Podd, the SLFA’s Technical Director. ”We were still strong at the end. We also wanted to get that winning mentality in place. We still have a lot to work on. We haven’t started our sharpness work or carried out any technical or tactical work yet. We must now build on our solid foundation. Overall we are pleased with the progress.”
