The
Vempers Sports Athletic Dramatic Club (VSADC) Youth Academy
and Executive members were the recipients of a stirring lecture
by Fortuna Belrose Director of Youth & Sports, on Saturday
30th August 2008 at the Vide Boutielle Cultural Club Headquarters
at La Clery.
Club President Greg Mathurin said, “This was the first
in a series of monthly lectures organized by VSADC. The aim
of these lectures is to teach the fifty students who attend
the academy on a weekly basis, lessons which can be used both
on and off the field of play.” The theme of Belrose’s
lecture was Sports & Education.
During her lecture the once active tennis and netball player,
past President of the St.Lucia National Netball Association,
stressed the importance of academic achievement, perseverance
and discipline as a path to personal and sporting development.
She
also motivated the students by pointing out the numerous opportunities
which are available to individuals to commit to maximizing
both their athletic talents and academic abilities.
Belrose also pledged her department’s support to other
similar youth football programs which have sprung up all over
the island.
At the end of the lecture, academy attendee Meshawn Kirton
thanked Belrose on behalf of the other students as they all
pledged to practice the valuable lessons which they learnt.
In the upcoming months students of the VSADC Youth Academy
will benefit from lectures on conflict resolution, health,
and fitness and also inter house competitions. |
