Medals and National Records for Danielle and Siona in Aruba
On
the first day of competition in Aruba at the XXIII CARIFTA
Swimming Championships, Thursday 27th April 2008, the 2007
Junior Female athlete of the year Siona Huxley and her compatriot
Danielle Beaubrun captured St. Lucia’s first 2008 CARIFTA
swimming medals.
Huxley powered her way to win Silver in the women’s
13-14 category 50M Back, while Beaubrun had to settle for
Bronze in the women’s 15-17 category 200M Breaststroke
and in the process both swimmers established new National
Records
Siona had swum a new time of 32.18 secs in the Preliminaries
and went on to again break the National Record in the finals.
She placed second to Kendes Nangle of Jamaica.
In
the 200M Breaststroke Danielle swam a time of 2:48.99 seconds
breaking her previous record of 2:49.50 and placed behind
Mc Kayla Lightbourne and Aliesha Lightbourne of Bahamas.
This would be the third National Record Danielle has broken
in the past 10 days as she recently broke the 50M Breast and
50M Free LC records at the Southern Florida Sectional Swimming
Championships in Orlando Florida
Also swimming on the day in the finals of the 200M Breaststroke
Women 15-17 was Sara Georgoes who had earlier swam 3:04.16
secs in the Preliminaries.
Meanwhile, Jon-L Innocent Dolor swam a 3:00.46 secs to place
11th in the 13-14 Boys 200M Breaststroke but did not make
the finals and Runako Daniel erased an impressive 5 seconds
on his 100M Fly to post 1:13.07 and place 9th in the Preliminaries. |
