2008 OECS Junior Squash Tournament continues this weekend

The 2008 Digicel Junior OECS Squash championships served off last evening at the St. Lucia Yacht Club at 5.00 pm. This year four countries are participating namely St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the British Virgin Islands the Commonwealth of Dominica and host nation St. Lucia.
Participants in this year’s championship will compete in boys and girls divisions in age categories – under 11, under 13, under 15, under 17, and under 19.
Digicel, the title sponsor and the Squash Association hosted a press conference at the St Lucia Yacht Club on Thursday afternoon at 3.00 pm to introduce the team. Digicel used the opportunity to distribute some good luck packages to the team members which included their team uniform for the tournament and phones for each player.

St. Lucia’s junior team comprises Megan Piper, the only girl on the team playing under 17, while her brother Daniel Piper will compete in under 15. There are four promising and aspiring newcomers to the scene of Squash – Theo Jn Marie, Gerardo Lozano and Mario Jn Baptiste playing under 19, while Jake Plant will battle it out in the under 17 boys category.
Matches will continue today Saturday 29th at the Yacht Club from 10.30 am and on Sunday 30th from 10.00 am with Prize giving following the finals scheduled at 2.00 pm.
Meanwhile, the St.Lucia Squash Association is reminding the general public that there is no cover charge to the Championship and persons are invited to come and support the local players and to view the matches. The sponsors Digicel have offered some attractive prizes to persons coming to view this year’s Championship.
