Big
Four Football Heating up at Vigie
Football
action continued at the Vigie Playing Field on Tuesday 11th
March 2008 in the inaugural Micheal Fedee Memorial Big Four
Tournament organized by VSADC. After two impressive victories
FC Pioneers entered Tuesday afternoon’s encounter bubbling
on an all time high with confidence versus NYAH.
However, they were pegged back as they came out on the wrong
end of a 3 goals to nil score line. FC Pioneers looked nothing
liked the team which played VSADC on Saturday 8th February
in an even encounter, while NYAH looked in total control and
a team worthy of its current place at the top of the table
with 7 points one ahead of FC Pioneer in second place.
NYAH’s first goal was courtesy of a close range, 11th
minute header by Owen Louison after some fine work down the
left flank. Nine minutes later Quintin Louison gave his team
a more comfortable lead when he was able to get the ball past
FC Pioneers keeper; Abraham Mentor former national goalkeeper.
The
half time break provided no respite for FC Pioneers as NYAH
continued to play a high pressure attacking game, not seen
in a very long time. The FC Pioneers defense looked disorganized
and it was obvious that they were missing central defender
Junior “Chubby” Samuel who was on a red card suspension,
indeed worrisome for Coach Cassim Miller. Although it appeared
that FC Pioneers were given a life line when NYAH had Iancy
James sent off for dangerous play; the ten NYAH players sealed
the game in the 80th minute when Marvin “ Curfew”
Barthelmy was able to calmly roll the ball into the goal despite
being under heavy defensive pressure.
Meanwhile, the first round of matches of the Michael Fedee
Memorial Castries Big Four Football Tournament concluded yesterday
when VSADC played Lancers FC. |
