The
first in a series of community netball-ramas organized by
the SLNNA took place in Anse la Raye on Sunday 27th February
2008. Sunday’s event hosted by Anse la Raye All Stars
was well-organized although the overall participation of some
of the affiliates was not what was expected.
A total of four clubs took part, namely Avengers,
Shamrock One and Two, Olabisi and All Stars Juniors. According
to the Technical Director of the SLNNA Caron Tobiere residents
of Anse La Raye and its environs were treated to four hours
of exciting non stop netball skills at its highest as the
ladies displayed their talent.
At the end, Shamrock eventually walked away with the first
place prize monies with the ever improving Avengers coming
in second. The day’s event was sponsored by Branford
Shipping & Brokerage.
The second in the series of netball-ramas is scheduled for
Sunday 24th February 2008 at the VMPSC and the ladies in Green
and Black of Shamrock Sports Club will be hosts. Tobiere said,
“ It is hoped that other clubs hosting netball-ramas
2008 will seek to emulate the precedent set by All Stars.”
One
notable absentee at Sunday’s event was national Helen
of the West and OECS Champions Digicel Elite Strikers.
Meanwhile, the SLNNA is again reminding all netball players
eligible for training for St. Lucia’s Under 23 and Senior
National netball squads of a meeting with the coaches assigned
and Executive on Wednesday 30th January, at 6.00 pm at the
Department of Youth & Sports at Barnard Hill.
The Super J Vintage Annual Tournament begins Saturday 2nd
February at the Vigie Multi Purpose Sports Complex from 4:00
pm. Teams participating in this year’s tournament are
reminded that registration is due by today Tuesday 29th January.
In addition, the SLNNA is inviting participating teams to
send two representatives to a meeting on Thursday 31st January
at 6:00 pm at the VMPSC.
