Stanstead College brings Canada to St. Lucia

STANSTEAD, Quebec, Canada – From skiing and soccer to multicultural exposure and academic excellence, representatives from Stanstead College in Quebec, Canada will be sharing all the benefits of studying in Canada at an information session in St. Lucia Saturday, March 1.

Joanne Carruthers, Director of Admissions at Stanstead College, an English co-ed boarding school just minutes from the U.S. border, will lead the delegation that will welcome visitors at Coco Palm Hotel, Room 101, in Rodney Bay Village.

“We’re a small school of about 190 students, almost half of whom come from outside Canada,” said Mrs. Carruthers. “With our small class sizes, students receive focused attention from teachers as they prepare for university. Very few other schools can offer that in such a secure, structured environment. To complete the picture, there’s the opportunity for students to compete in high level athletics and to try many new clubs and activities.”

Another benefit of studying at a school like Stanstead College is the ready access to colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. Stanstead offers an intensive Grade 12 program that includes comprehensive guidance to steer students towards the post-secondary school of their choice.

One of Stanstead’s graduates is none other than St. Lucia’s Minister of Tourism, Allen Chastanet, who attended Stanstead from 1975 to 1979.

“Coming from a small island like St. Lucia, Stanstead’s close-knit community allowed for a seamless immersion into a new culture without the overwhelming size of a big city,” said Mr. Chastanet. “Stanstead’s renowned standard of education prepared me for university and provided me with some of the best memories and friendships of my life.”

Parents, students and anyone interested in learning more about Stanstead College and the cultural experience that awaits them in Canada are invited to drop by the Coco Palm Hotel between 2 and 5 p.m. For information, contact Simone Christian at (758) 721-7590 or schristian@coco-resorts.com.
