C.A.R.E.
and SLHTA Collaborate to Provide Culinary Workshops
The
Centre for Adolescent Renewal and Education (C.A.R..E.) and
the St. Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association (SLTA) collaborated
to provide two culinary workshops for persons in the field
of hospitality and catering. These workshops were made possible
through the sponsorship of The Florida Association for Volunteer
Action in the Caribbean and the Americas (FAVACA).
FAVACA which is based in Tallahassee, Florida, provided the
opportunity for C.A.R.E. to receive assistance in an area
of need. After reviewing the skill programmes offered by C.A.R.E.
and the demand currently being made for trainees in the catering
and hospitality programme, it was felt that the staff in that
area should be the ones to benefit from any available training
opportunity.
Mrs. Marjorie Erixson, who has worked in the industry for
over 20 years at various large and small properties worldwide,
and who currently lectures at Keiser University in Florida,
was selected to be the FAVACA facilitator of the two (2) two-day
workshops here in St. Lucia. The first workshop which was
held at the Royal St. Lucian Resort & Spa on May 21st
and 22nd, catered to supervisors of large hotel properties
in addition to the C.A.R.E. staff. The second workshop, which
was held at the Sandals Regency Golf Resort & Spa catered
to line cooks and stewards of smaller properties.
Participants welcomed the opportunity for training and expressed
their gratitude for the learning experience. They also offered
suggestions for future workshops that they hope Chef Marge
will be able to conduct in the near future.
