Dr Vaughan Lewis Appointed Special Advisor In The Ministry Of External Affairs

Former Prime Minister Dr. Vaughan Lewis has been appointed Special Advisor in the Ministry of External Affairs, International Trade and Civil Aviation. Dr. Lewis who recently retired from the Institute of International Relations, University of the West Indies, Trinidad & Tobago, is Emeritus Professor of Caribbean International Relations of that University and has worked at various Universities in Great Britain and the United States of America.
Dr Lewis served, from 1982 to 1995, as the Founding Director of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, and as Chairman of the Committee formed by Government to advise on the establishment of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College of which he was subsequently appointed Chairman from 1985 to 1995.

 
 

At the Ministry of External Affairs Dr Lewis will be concerned, among other areas, with the work of the Ministry on CARICOM and OECS Relations, exploration of possibilities for Relations with states in Latin America and the wider Caribbean, and development implications of the CARICOM-European Economic Partnership Agreement.
Dr Lewis has also been mandated to function as Chairman of a Committee to Review the Foreign Affairs directions of St Lucia which was announced in the Governor General’s Throne Speech to Parliament.
