Serenity Park opened to Public!
Rae Anthony

The Serenity Park which was under construction for a year, commissioned by the government of Saint Lucia and located in Sans Souci Castries, was officially opened to the general public on Sunday May 15th 2011.
Allan Didier the Operations Manager of the Castries City Council spoke a little bit more about the park opening and its benefits to the public. “We had the opening of the park’s, which is called Serenity Park on Sunday. The name was submitted by students of the R.C. Boys Infant School. It was a competition amongst the schools in the Castries basin and the R.C. Boys Infant School came up with the name, hence the name, Serenity Park. The park was officially opened by the Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy and Minister of local government Richard Frederick and also the Prime Minister, Honourable Stephenson King.”
The park which was opened to the general public provided the service free of charge. However Mr. Didier stated that if a member of the public would like to use the park for a wedding, or any other private function they would have to pay a fee.
The Operations Manager of the City Council further went on to state his enthusiasm for this new addition. “I’m extremely happy. The park was designed and built all by local professionals, especially young professionals, young guys who are just coming up in the architectural business, engineering, electrical and other professions. Everything was done locally and built by local young men.”

He also spoke about graffiti, which some individuals may be tempted to encourage. “” I would like to say to these individuals that this is a park built for them and that’s a park for the future. The young people can boast about that park that represents them because it was done by young people like themselves. What I would like to say to them is to protect the park like it’s their home, something that they should be proud of and the graffiti and stuff is not accepted, because it is not our culture. Anybody who is found doing that will be dealt with.”
Gregor Henry a local citizen who was in the newly built park and who was already enjoying the setting with sunglasses, headphones and food spoke about his joy for the Serenity Park. “I think it was a wonderful idea. It benefits Saint Lucians and not forgetting the visitors that come to our shores, We can all make good use of the park. It looks rather interesting and I think it is in a very good location because the sea surrounds it. It is pretty spacious and the view and the park itself is quite inviting I must say. All in all, in a nutshell I would say bravo to Mr. Frederick and the government of Saint Lucia.”
