Man sentenced to 10 years for manslaughter

On 3rd June 2004 at about 2:00pm, Ricardo George is alleged to have broken into the house of Augustin Wiliams and is alleged to have deprived him of a sum of money amounting to $800 and other items.
Mr Stanley Felix, who represented Augustine Williams said that the defendant lived with his foster-mother at La Ressource, Dennery, was a Roman Catholic but he grew locks. Certain members of the community of La Ressource indicated that the defendant was a well- behaved person, respectable and very cool, non-violent and hard-working.
When the defendant saw Ricardo George in his house he struggled to bind his hands and feet and beat him with a calabash whip, a piece of wire and the face of a cutlass for having stolen his goods.

Ricardo George was subsequently taken to the Victoria hospital where he died nine days later.
The defendant was remanded at the Bordelais Correctional Facility and when he appeared in court six years later he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for manslaughter on Friday 5th March 2010.
The defendant asked for an opportunity to apologize in court. The defense counsel informed the court that the defendant has already apologized to the victim’s family. The defendant’s counsel informed the court that the staff at the Bordelais Correctional Facility described Augustin Williams as a role model and a very cooperative individual.
