M,G. George

The Ministry of Social Transformation, Youth and Sports has terminated all ties that it had with freelance sports journalist Robertson Henry and the website he is associated with, namely Sports Caribee, with immediate effect.
The Ministry expressed its position a day after Henry, 48, assaulted Voice sports journalist Anthony Debeauville at the George Odlum Stadium during the opening ceremony and athletics championship of the Windward Islands School Tournament.
“Your actions at the stadium during the 2010 Windward Islands Official Opening Ceremony and Athletics Championship cannot be condoned and necessitates the termination of your services and collaborations in all forms with and to us,” a letter from Victor Reid, the Director of Youth and Sports in the said Ministry noted in part. The letter was addressed to Henry.

The incident which occurred in the early afternoon of last Sunday resulted in Anthony sustaining serious wounds to his head and creates the possibility of losing all hearing in his right ear which was savagely pounded on by Henry.
Vieux Fort police have charged Henry with Grievous Harm, which could be upgraded to something more serious if it is determined that Anthony will lose his hearing in the ear in question.
Henry appeared in court Thursday where he was granted bail in the sum of $5000 cash or suitable surety. The court ordered him to surrender his travelling documents and report to the Criminal Investigation Department in Castries every Monday between the hours of 6:00am – 6:00pm. He was also asked to stay away from Debeauville and members of his family. The case was adjourned to the 17th of August, 2010.
Henry has yet to release his version of the incident.
