LAST LAP...
Gros Islet Carnival Queen Pageant

The count-down has begun for the last lap carnival and home-coming activities in Gros-Islet this weekend. This Friday five young girls from Gros-Islet and its environs will vie against one another to become Miss Gros-Islet and represent the North at the national Queen show next year. The contestants are Avee Fedee; Chrissy Daniel and Jenita Joseph from Gros-Islet; Kaila Gregg and Lou Ann Gustave from Grande Riviere. The Queen Show will be held at the Gros-Islet Primary School from 8pm.

 
 

The Queen pageant will be followed by the parade of the carnival bands on Saturday July 31st and last lap on Sunday August 1st the traditional Gros-Islet Day. This year Gros-Islet is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its elevation to township status. Activities also coincide with homecoming events being held every evening in Gros-Islet on the grounds of the Old Convent.
The carnival parade will take place through the streets of Gros-Islet, in and around the famous Friday night street party venue. Revellers from throughout the Gros-Islet district as well as those returning for the 2010 home-coming are expected to play mas in the Gros-Islet carnival.
Revellers from the national costumed bands are also expected to be part of the festivities. Registration continues at the Galaxy Internet Cafe- Owen’s Construction- Castro’s Pub and with members of the Gros-Islet Cultural Development Committee.
