Soufriere Man Charged for Murder

On Wednesday the 30th of December, 2009, Soufriere police preferred a charge against Marshall Phillipie, a.k.a. Martin, 45 years of Fond St.Jacques, Soufriere, for the murder of Amelina Henry, 50 years, also of Fond St.Jacques.
It was reported that Henry was found at her house about 1:00am on Thursday the 24th of December, 2009, with multiple stab wounds to her back. She was rushed to the Soufriere Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Soufriere police conducted a thorough investigation into the matter, which led to Phillipie’s arrest. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday the 5th of January, 2010.

Elderly Woman Died from Excess Smoke

On Monday the 28th of December, 2009, a post mortem which was performed on the body of Marie Griffith, 81 years of Arundell-Hill, Castries, revealed death by smoke inhalation.
The deceased was at her house about 6:00am on Saturday the 26th of December, 2009, when the wall structure was completely destroyed by fire. She was later found at her house with injuries to her face and was taken to the Victoria Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

 
 

Dennery Marijuana Plantation Destroyed by Police

Police officers attached to the Drug Unit of the Royal St.Lucia Police Force, conducted an eradication exercise on a plantation in a forest reserved area at Grande-Bois, in the quarter of Dennery, on Tuesday the 29th of December, 2009, where a quantity of nine hundred and sixty-seven (967) grown plants of marijuana and sixty-five (65) seedlings were destroyed. A home-made shotgun and thirty pounds (30 lbs) of dried cannabis were also found on the plantation. No one was arrested.


Venezuelans Fined for Immigration Charges

Fifteen Venezuelans, who were previously charged for drug and immigration incidents, appeared in court on Wednesday the 16th of December, 2009, where they pleaded guilty to the immigration charges.
The six crew members who were onboard the first vessel to be intercepted by police, were fined the sum of $500.00EC each, to be paid forthwith or one month imprisonment. The other nine crew members were ordered to pay the sum of $1100.00EC each, also to be paid forthwith or in default three months imprisonment. The captain of the vessel named, Camastron, which transported the nine crew members, pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to stop and was fined the sum of $10,000EC to be paid forthwith or nine months imprisonment.
All fifteen men returned to the Boredelais Correctional Facility where they are being held on remand in relation to the drug cases which were adjourned to the 15th of February, 2010 for sufficiency hearing.
