Man sentenced to 4 years imprisonment for possession of cocaine and cannabis

The legislation, with no reasonable doubt, tends to believe that, upon conviction, individuals charged with the same offence should be sentenced equally. Although the period classified for class A drugs is 7 years imprisonment or a fine of $200,000, Cuthbert Felix, who was charged with the offence of possession of cocaine and cannabis, and later found guilty on Tuesday 3rd August 2010, was given 4 years on each count, his sentences to run concurrently.
In my previous article, “Wooden house with cocaine and cannabis recovered on farm”, the defendant was escorted to his farm about ½ mile away from his home. The farm consisted of banana trees, pig pen and a wooden house on pillars. Officer St Rose forced a metal lever to open the latch which was secured by a padlock since the defendant claimed that he had no keys for the door.

After being cautioned again by the officer, Cuthbert replied “O.k. officer, I have cocaine and weed in the house.” He pointed out the different items which contained the drugs, 2 bags with dried cannabis and a bucket of green plants also a bag with15 rectangular blocks of cocaine which were all showed in court.
After being remanded in custody from the aforesaid date the jury returned a verdict of guilty, the defendant reappeared in court on Tuesday 24th August 2010 to be sentenced. It was known by the probation officer that Cuthbert was a kind, generous and unselfish individual in his community of Chassain, Barboneau. The 54 year old established and operates a large pig farm since he had obtained $9000 from his deceased parents. He has a wife and 3 children who are French citizens in Martinique where they currently reside. Cuthbert had no previous convictions and he denied the wooden hose and substances found. However, the crown submit cocaine as a dangerous drug and cannabis was also a Class A drug, Cuthbert was punished for the offence of the act.
