The
more things change
The
Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court’s website has been in
existence for over four years.
On its front page is a message from the recently appointed
Chief Justice Hugh Anthony Rawlins. At the time of posting
the communiqué, Justice Rawlins was acting in the capacity
of Chief Justice.
The message is headlined:
“ They must often change, who would be constant in …
wisdom.”
Justice Rawlins message goes on: The Eastern Caribbean Supreme
Court’s website has been used as a tool for the dissemination
of information for the past four years. However it was felt
that changes and improvements to the website were necessary,
not only to broaden our areas of coverage, but also to have
a more organized look and feel, thus, hopefully, rendering
the site more useful and interesting to existing and potential
users. It is our hope that the changes which we are making
to the website, and its continuing development, will fulfill
the Court’s objective of making its work more accessible
to the public and will better enable us to continue to keep
you up to date on the happenings of the Court.
Without
these periodic changes in style, presentation and content,
a website, as indeed any information medium, will cease to
perform its core function, that of disseminating timely and
relevant information.
We anticipate that this website will prove a valuable source
of information for the public at large, while enhancing the
overall mission of the Court system; and that visitors will
find the information here both useful and current at all times.
Comments and suggestions, that would further contribute to
fulfilling the purpose for which the website was created,
are welcome.”
Sadly the website is dysfunctional as most of our court system
is.
For instance there is a section headed: Upcoming events. Posted
there are two such happenings. A Regional Conference and the
28th International Human Rights Training Program. The later
is advertised to take place on June 10th 2007. The application
deadline is December 1st 2006. As for the Regional Conference
that is equally out of date.
And although all the other information on the site is a bit
hit and miss how sad that nobody has thought to update this
particular section to advertise the up and coming Regional
Law Fair to be hosted and held on the island in the next couple
of weeks? The more things change . . .
