Gros Islet Youth Footballers Clean Up

“It’s not a matter of cleaning up but not Littering” was the message which the Gros Islet Youth Footballers hoped to pass on to the residents of Gros Islet as they participated in the National Clean-up Campaign on Saturday November 1st.
The Clean-up Campaign began at the Gros Islet Playing Field and continued through the streets of the Gros Islet Town and Bayside with over twenty (20) young footballers participating. “The activity was expected to bring to light the littering issue which presently affects the whole country and the responsibility of all as it exposes the negative impacts it can have” says the co-coordinator of the Youth Football Programme Jennifer Gaston.

Gaston further went on to say “It was very interesting to hear some of the young men express their displeasure at what they saw during the clean-up and I hope that this would assist in the changing of attitudes at that level.”
One of the observations made during the campaign was that certain areas which were inaccessible by the young men were much littered and the co-ordinator will be approaching the Gros Islet Town Council regarding the cleaning up of these areas. The young footballers plan on participating in more clean-up activities in the coming year. The campaign which began at 7.00 am ended with football training at the Gros Islet playing field at 12.00 noon.
