SLBC
Meets Farmers
The
St. Lucia Banana Corporation (SLBC) will today hold a meeting
with its core group of farmers to sensitize them of the
other issues involved in the present impasse between itself
and the Windward Islands Banana Development and Exporting
Company Limited.
The impasse, though quiet today, is far from over despite
a request from the SLBC Chairman Eustace Monrose for Prime
Minister Stephenson King to sit with him to discuss the
situation, which Monrose pointed out yesterday is not about
the Fairtrade Labeling Organization certification of banana
companies but rather of issues that involve the take over
of the SLBC by other parties.
Monrose
noted that the underlying issue in this impasse is not the
certification issue WIBDECO is making a fuss about since
WIBDECO still trades with uncertified banana companies in
other Windward Islands.
Today’s meeting with farmers will be in La Caye.
