We
definitely need a White Collar Audit
I
do not want to ponder on political issues, but
sometimes it becomes necessary to make statements
that need to be brought to light. It seems to
me very deceitful for certain operatives of
one party that are appointed purely on their
political affiliation or their bias for one
party and would do all that is necessary to
ensure that they carry out the wishes and mandate
of the said party should also want to be counted
when the table changes.
It is common practice for the party in power
to hire or install persons of like minds, or
mainstream supporters to head their various
boards or key positions. Usually, the reason
is to ensure that if there are irregularities,
such persons would most likely turn a blind
eye or ignore the disputed issue. I listened
to an operative of the United Workers Party
making some blatant statements on the media
stating that when Labor party was in opposition
they campaigned mainly on accusations of corruption
within the then government, but to date they
cannot present proof that such corruption exists.
May I say, undoubtedly, that there are various
forms of corruption, some detected and some
are hidden agendas and usually it takes the
Head of the party to condone such behavior.
A case in point is the role of Press Secretary.
It is a known fact that the former Press Sectary
made it his duty to defend the actions of every
policy or decision that his party took, despite
the widespread criticism on several issues.
He would call in the talk show programs to counteract
all allegations. So, in so doing, his loyalty
to his party was unquestionable. But my understanding
is that he remained in the job after the elections
for almost two months, although I as a member
of the public didn’t hear one word from
him. Then, my question is: Why was he still
in position weeks after the government and the
prime minister changed? What did he do and did
he get paid for doing nothing? If so, what do
you call that?
I would further state that the pulling of the
electricity plug on our main sporting complex
because of unpaid bills is also deceitful. I
am sure that the only reason that the utility
companies kept the service available at the
complex despite the enormous bills, was that
they assumed that it was owned by government
and at some time the bills would be paid, and
to avoid embarrassing the Government, and by
extension the people, or to be seen as being
insensitive or inhuman, to keep the service
for that length of time. All of that, only for
us to be told, in the final analysis, that the
bill is a “private sector affair”,
that it was “management fault” and
that “the administration” at the
stadium is to blame. That too is fraud in my
book, especially when so much funds were handed
or given to the regime through the TAIWAN connection.
