A patriotic daughter, Fiona Mayer

The Editor,
As many qualified persons leave St. Lucian shores and people cry ‘brain drain’ there are others that return. Permit me to tell you about Fiona Mayer, originally from Marigot. I met Fiona while she lived in Vienna, Austria and was struck by her comments about her homeland, her awareness and concern for what was happening as she checked the news daily, as if she was back home. Fiona I found out went to the Roseau School and then went back to teach there. She later got married and moved to Vienna, Austria. This lady was able to secure work at one of the world’s top International Schools, (Vienna International School) and then become the Elementary Vice Principal at yet another top school (Danube International School). I must tell you as an Austrian this is no small step.
I am writing this to express my desire to see a small feature/article about her. She has returned to St. Lucia as she wants to contribute to her own society. I know that the colleagues were sad to see her make that decision.
