Looshans got LOVE!

THE EDITOR,
Please allow me some space in your newspaper to express some thoughts. Wow! It is really surprising to see so much love in St. Lucia, regardless of the “always fighting each other down” syndrome, like crabs in a barrel. I say this, through personal experiences. Before going any further, I do sincerely wish to thank ALL St. Lucians who contributed to the fund raising venture to assist me in my being able to materialize the financing for my continued medical treatment in Cuba last year. First and foremost, to Mr. Andre Paul, Mr. Dennis Dabreo of TCT Television and all the persons who called in on the programme to pledge no matter how little. Looshans got love? Surely. I was astonished, as I began to feel better and walk the streets, how so many people greeted me, hugged me, kissed me (on the cheek, of course), shook my hands, smiled and showed positive interest in my well being. Some of the persons I never even spoke to in my life and only greeted by way of a head nod or a shortened hello, while some others, just mere acquaintances. They all showed some sense of concern. Love does exist. So it begs the question, why the hell are we fighting each other for? Wake up St. Lucians, we are surrounded by plenty of love. Let us share it!

On the other hand, I was appalled by this one. I walked into a certain Insurance office last December to collect a 2010 calendar and was greeted by a young lady in this manner. “Mr. Morgan, I didn’t know you were sick until this lady came to our office with a sheet soliciting funds to assist with your medical situation”. “Say what?”, I hastened to reply. This lady, whoever she was, had no authority to conduct such an activity. She was just an opportunist. Haven’t we heard of persons walking the City streets with a sheet of paper with a picture seeking money for medical purposes or holding dances in the name of St. Jude and now it’s all about Haiti? One wonders what will be the next occasion. Mind you, some of these efforts are genuine but beware of the users of such circumstances. These acts could be detrimental to those who honestly require the help. So St. Lucia, though my acknowledgement for my gratitude is somewhat late, I say a big THANK YOU to all who stood by me in my time of need.

Morgan George
