German Chancellor Merkel reacts to EU indiscipline

Quotation by Arnold H Glasgow “one of the tests of leadership is the ability to recognise a problem before it becomes an emergency”
Chancellor Merkel of Germany and Mr Nicholas Sarkozy the French President have bonded together sending a clear signal to the European Union that discipline and production are the only method that will be tolerated. Like several third world countries which function - ignoring the importance of production, Greece and Portugal have attempted to follow that path realising that a strong Euro will fill the gap. This assumption has fallen on deaf ears to the extent that Chancellor Merkel has come forward forcefully by reading the riot act by way of her country wishing to return to the Deutsche Mark and abandoning the Euro if irresponsible Governments won’t listen and take heed.

When the Euro was conceived, we implored the idea as unity is strength, but we remained concerned that so many cultures could stick together without the less developed ones taking much for granted. We were extremely surprised that the transition moved forward that diligently and, more so, the tremendous appreciation of the Euro against all other currencies simultaneously establishing its ranking within the financial arena.
This recession has now placed considerable strain and a real test upon this decision and for the first time, the maturity and strength of the Euro is being tested by some countries without the discipline and stamina to sustain global pressures of this nature and we can only suppose that the outcome will be interesting.
In our view, common sense will prevail and the delinquent countries will be forced to conform, regardless of their foreseeable domestic issues, as France and Germany will not tolerate a wavering currency since the Euro has already emerged as a currency of choice on the international scene. On a parting note, however, the recent decline of the Euro is good for business but bad for pride.
