Political Suicide
By Randall Mondesir (LION I)

It is now more than obvious that the country is preparing for another round of political confrontation, war rooms are being set up, ground soldiers are rounding up, and tongues are being sharpened to undo any acts of good will. The time has come for every politician to be on their best behaviour, it is in the interest of every contender to create a positive public impression, or mask their unproductive efforts with deceit and lies.
To make any sort of mistake between now and election day will be considered futile, and detrimental to any party, what is sad is that all attempts of goodwill by opposing fractions will be exposed on the local market step, with the intent to undermine and discredit any or every good intention one may have. This seems to be the trend that some political leaders have embraced. In a world that is so unstable, where civil unrest and fear dominate the course of the day and a peace of mind seem to be a thing of the past, there are leaders who use the political platform with the intent to create even more social, economical, and infrastructural mayhem.
St Lucians today have lost their proclivity for people that constantly bear bad news. The people of this nation all have their hands full with their own personal problems, what they crave for are solutions. The selfish and self centered attitude of some political leaders have become too obvious, and their craving for power is not based on their level of success, a history or charitable commitment, or an impressive track record, but merely based on egos, and vengeance.
Leaders must be aware that our implicit thoughts have heightened over the past decade, political leaders take heed, the days of platform tongue lashing is over, if you can’t cook up a solid future for St Lucia then stay out of the kitchen. There are men today who have developed and adapted a doctrine that is geared to the immediate response to the people’s needs. Affirmative action with effective solution response time is the way of the future, time is money. St Lucians do not want to hear leaders bleat like goats about the problems that we are faced with; on the contrary, they are consequently entertained by leaders who address the solution. Be alert, St Lucians are more assertive and have become more politically inclined than ever before to the tricks and trades of their leaders, and that is why those who have been removed will not be allowed the credence to exercise their failures.
After every gray cloud there is a silver lining, there are men out there that have made that lining a reality, men who have set their agenda to serve entirely in the interest of the people of St Lucia. Men like Dr Robert Lewis, Ezekiel Joseph, Guy Joseph, Richard Frederick, Stevenson King, Guy Mayers, Dr Steven King, and Dr Ulric Mondesir etc. These men have made extensive and prolonged impacts on the lives of thousands of St Lucians and they continue to do so even to this day, to challenge their efforts would lead the public to question one’s ulterior motive.

Men like these are doing their best to ensure that we may live and progress through the hardships that we face in the world today, these men have shown their true nobility of patronage to the people of this nation. Backed by people like Angel Brouet, and Jocelyn Fanis who spend their lives seeing to the needs of the people, while they spread good will to St Lucians in hard times. They struggle every day, and at times put their own personal lives at risk to do their part in securing a stable, healthy, environment for us all. It is a shame and an embarrassment to know that there are people out there that sought out to discredit good leadership, not based on a personal character, but simply because these men have established themselves as an elite set of leaders who have spent their lives accomplishing outstanding work over many years that have directly impacted thousands of St Lucians.
If the ulterior motive is to defame good leaders like these I will say that it would just be a complete waste of campaign money. Money that could be used to satisfy many problems that their supporters, friends, and family members encounter every day. To do otherwise would be political suicide, a grown man must know that when he confronts leaders who have established positive results, he does not pose a challenge, it is his/her ego that drives him to peruse a battle that he knows that he will lose. Even though he/she has the choice of using his campaign money to help his/her people in need. Instead he/she does what a dying man would do, spend it all in a constituency that they know they have already lost in order to satisfy his/her selfish intent. When the money is done there is nothing left to help the wounded.
Political leaders must now more than ever choose their battle grounds, we live in a very sensitive environment and the people are not interested in verbal political diarrhoea, they want money, security, jobs, and long term results. They are no longer fooled by cheap talk and power suggestive actions, large structures that bear no fruit, St Lucians crave for immediate attention. The leaders who spend their time discrediting anything that is St Lucian both here and abroad, proceed with caution, you may very well have to eat your own words. Our main issue here at home is crime, and jobs, the whole country knows that, there is nothing political about this. These issues shape and define the very fabric of our society and the way every St Lucian lives, it is not the sole responsibility of the incumbent to suppress these matters, we the public are just as responsible.
If there is anything wrong with St Lucia we are the ones to blame, all of us, it is our country, our lives, our future, we are responsible for all of our action, we are responsible for the leaders that we entrust wit
