06th Feburary 2010
What a Wick: the last 7 days in 19 (30th January to 5th February, 2010)

I’m sure you’ve stared with astonishment at a neighbor, a coworker, a relative, or a total stranger, based on the words, actions or appearance of that person. We’re all guilty of that, I think. But by now we should appreciate that we’re all different, not by mistake but by design. Diversity may just be that fuel which keeps the world turning. Are you like any of these people below? Or do you know anyone like them?
1. The wolves: This week, 10 US missionaries were charged with child kidnapping. They tried to smuggle 33 Haitian children in the name of the Almighty relief effort.
2. The superhero: Will Smith tried to solve the world’s problems in movies but now he will try in real life. He’s thinking of moving into politics.
3. Fresh Prince: Prince Harry danced to a calypso tune to raise funds for Haiti during a fundraiser in Barbados.
4. Award winner: Trinidad’s Heather Headley won a Grammy Award last Sunday.
5. Those who value education: Chinese zookeepers are looking for a tutor to teach Chinese to an American-born panda.
6. The cheapskate: A 19 year old New Zealander needed to pay her tuition so she auctioned her virginity online to a stranger for almost $31,900. An American sold hers for $3.8 million last year, so the New Zealander got a raw deal.
7. The fortunate: Michael Jackson’s doctor may face a charge of involuntary manslaughter. The Jacksons are not pleased.
8. The highly innovative: In the US, police found 743 pounds of marijuana (value of $400,000) wrapped inside the tank of a septic truck. Such messy situation - the tank also contained human waste.
9. Animal lovers: In Amsterdam, a new law bans human sex with animals and forbids the production of animal porn.
10. The insightful: Antiguans dangled the prize of a trip to St. Lucia to get people to participate in a debate competition.

11. Problem solvers: If you want to prevent your daughter from stealing food from the refrigerator, lock her in a cupboard. That’s what a US couple did for one year before they were arrested this week.
12. Those who are not good at math: A South African minibus driver whose blood alcohol level was 5 times over the limit was caught transporting 49 children in a 16-seat vehicle.
13. The accomplished: Jamaican icon Rex Nettleford died this week.
14. The wannabes: A Chinese woman is looking to undergo extensive plastic surgery to look like U.S. actress Jessica Alba. This is in a bid to win her ex boyfriend back.
15. The considerate: A restaurant in Canada, aware that people will be more frisky around Valentines, extended an invitation to patrons to have sex in the restaurant’s restrooms from the 12th – 14th February. The restaurant will make all the necessary arrangements.
16. The penny pinchers: In China, a boss killed two workers who complained about the 44 cents deductions he’d made from their salaries. The boss man had admitted to the workers that he’d deducted the money for his own personal use.
17. The hopeful: Darren Sammy said that with confidence, team play and proper execution of the game plan the West Indies team should fare very well against the Aussies in the upcoming games.
18. The forgiving: Mandela will be hosting a dinner to mark the 20th anniversary of his release and he’s inviting one of his former jailers.
19. Those who love to party: the Lucians People Movement was added to the party mix in St. Lucia.
Consider yourselves up to speed…..
