Throwing
Red Herrings
The
Editor,
No amount of red herrings and incorrect statements
by our former Prime Minister to shield his deputy
can dispel the racial comment uttered by Phillip
Pierre and there will be a significant backlash
for both the deputy leader and the SLP as many
St Lucians are now comparing these sayings to
the unfortunate remarks made some years ago,
quote: “BREAKING GLASS IN YOUR ASS”.
When these remarks were made, the SLP was under
pressure, today, Kenny Anthony and Phillip Pierre
are under the same pressure, more so subsequent
to the amazing response at the Soufriere rally.
For whatever reason Kenny and Phillip are totally
obsessed with Allen Chastanet’s entrance
into the political arena, they relentlessly
try to pin all the major decisions in government
upon Senator Chastanet. Despite the fact that
Kenny’s statement in connection to the
Ritz Carlton project remains misleading, the
handling of the project falls under the portfolio
of the National Development Corporation and
the Minister of Finance and Cabinet has the
last say. The Minister of tourism cannot make
unilateral decisions and Kenny Anthony is quite
familiar with the rules of Government. When
Phillip Pierre was Minister of Tourism Trade
and Industry and he was questioned by the media
in respect to the amount guaranteed by Government
for Rochamel, he stated emphatically that HE
DID NOT KNOW. WHY? Because Kenny Anthony was
the Minister of Finance and the buck stops with
him. Did Kenny not deny that he authorized finger
printing for ID cards?
It is this kind of one sided ideology which
forces St Lucians to revisit the Kenny and Tony
scenario. Bringing on SLP supporters like Lucien
Noby Joseph to contradict proper tourism statistics
is an old fashion way of creating mischief which
is futile. Noby’s lack of professional
ability was distinctly noticeable as he attempted
to recite incorrect hotel occupancy statistics,
but more importantly it would be most interesting
for him to confirm the source of his information.
