ONE
on Hospital Plan
The
Organization for National Empowerment(ONE) calls on the Minister
of Health Dr.Keith Mondesir to scrap the idea of amalgamating
the General and Mental Hospitals into one entity at the new
Mental Health Facility on the Millennium Highway.
ONE is of the opinion that the situation as it exists today
is of the Governments’ own making when it made a major
diplomatic blunder my switching diplomatic relations from
Mainland China to Taiwan which has resulted in an over one(1)
year delay in the opening of the new Mental Health Facility
which was under construction by the Chinese.
The party is of the opinion that this government has lost
its way and is clearly out of touch with the realities of
modern day governance. As it is with most aspects of this
government’s modus operandi, there was no plan to deal
with the situation at the Golden Hope Hospital as the Permanent
Secretary disclosed that there was no budgetary allocation
for the Institution for the fiscal year 2007/08.Only when
faced with the threat of protest action by the staff and their
Union representatives did the Government hastily allocate
some funds for some cosmetic repairs.
One
calls on Minister Mondesir to explain why the government is
requesting the Taiwanese to consider the building of a 159
bed General Hospital and a 49 bed Mental Hospital when the
situation at it exits at the Victoria Hospital currently accommodates
200 beds and the Golden Hope Hospital 162.The main problem
facing both institutions is that they lack the capacity to
accommodate persons who need to be hospitalized due to inadequate
bed space. This situation has now reached crisis proportions
as dozens of patients who should be hospitalized are being
turned away.
The party calls on government to stop pussyfooting with the
nations health care and show leadership by completing the
new Mental Health Facility as it was originally designed and
immediately conclude plans for the building of the new General
Hospital.
