Here
today, gone tomorrow?
THE
EDITOR:
Kudos to the CCC for beautifying the vicinity around Place
Bideau, especially the passage-way adjacent to the former
Government Printery. That area has not only been an eyesore
for years but literally an obstacle course for pedestrians.
The new sparkling white picket fence facing A.F.Valmont on
Laborie Street is very attractive…for now, but I fear
that it won’t last until September because of vending
occurring in its immediate location. The same fate will befall
the area in front of the St.Lucia Marketing Board which is
now being given a facelift.
Noticeably, parking on the median on Jn Baptiste Street is
a common practice, also the median on lower Jeremie Street
which seems to be the official parking spot for the large
busses which transport hotel workers. Is parking in these
areas legal, especially given the fact that a public parking
lot is in close proximity?
I wonder, what’s the use of wasting the sizeable amount
of money expended on these projects if no one is held responsible
for defacing and destroying them? The lack of financial accountability
by offenders gives the impression that there is an infinite
amount of capital in CCC coffers. Some of that largess should
be spent on providing adequate lighting for the Castries Market
in which some areas are so dark that I wouldn’t be surprised
if some vendors are forced to utilize torch lights in order
to show of their wares.
I am sure that many people appreciate the upgrades being made
in the city, but in order for their continued existence there
must be some sort of policing by relevant authorities.
