Are
you a stickler for political correctness? You
might be if you refer to the crime rate as the
street activity index and the garbage man as
a sanitation engineer? There’s one way
to find out for sure. Select the more appropriate
term in each situation?
1. Maco OR socially aware?
A study has found that it is easier for some
people to give up cigarettes and alcohol than
it is for them to give up checking for Facebook
updates.
2. Housewife OR domestic engineer?
A US woman got married to a warehouse to prevent
her city from demolishing it.
3. Abortion OR near life experience?
Peruvian doctors discovered that a three-year-old
boy has his twin brother’s fetus in his
stomach; he’d absorbed the fetus while
in the womb. Surgeons will operate to remove
it.
4. Bad driver OR automotively challenged?
A study has found that women are actually better
at parking than men.
5. Corpse OR permanently static post-human
mass? In the US, a compulsive hoarder
kept her dead mother’s body in a storage
unit for 17 years.
6. Lazy OR motivationally deficient?
A UK parent took the easy route and gave her
child a Smarties sandwich (yes, two slices of
bread with the candy Smarties between) to take
to school for lunch.
7. Promiscuous OR horizontally accessible?
A 40-something year old UK woman has slept with
more than 1,000 men. She says that it’s
not her fault; her sex addiction is to blame.
8. Prisoners OR client of the correctional
system? Two Scottish inmates had been
breaking out of prison nightly to commit crimes,
and then breaking back into prison unnoticed
afterwards.
9. Midget OR anatomically compact?
Canadians are fuming over an upcoming dwarf-tossing
contest, but under the law nothing can be done
to stop it.
10. Lie OR constructive version of the
facts? An Italian priest who’d
told his parishioners that he was going on a
spiritual retreat was a passenger on board the
capsized Costa Concordia cruise ship.
11. Deviant OR behaviorally challenged?
A German policeman has been charged for driving
patrol cars without a driver’s license
for over 20 years.
