ECFH Greedy
For Green
Sherlana Ernest

“As
a financial organization, we aren’t greedy
for money, we are greedy for a better life for
St. Lucia, better environmental practices, saving
our country and saving our sustainable resources,”
were the words of ECFH Assistant Manager of
Corporate Communication, Ayodele Hippolyte.
Hippolyte served as mistress of ceremony at
the official launch of ECFH’s environmental
campaign, Greedy For Green, which is part of
ECFH’s Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR). In attendance at the August 31st Launch,
were ECFH Group Managing Director, Robert Norstrom,
as well as other ECFH Executives. Consolidated
Foods Limited Public Relations Manager Sariah
Best-Joseph, and representatives from St. Lucia
Blind Welfare Association, The Boys Training
Center and St. Lucia National Trust, were also
present.
According to Hippolyte, “Greedy for Green
is ECFH’s environmental program, and under
this program we will be formalizing and streamlining
our efforts with regards to environmental conservation
and protection”.
“What this campaign will mean is that
we will be adopting environmentally responsible
practices as an organization. Internally, for
instance, we will promote less use of paper,
and more of energy-saving devices, more energy
conservation and efficiency. And that is all
on the internal level.”
“Externally, we will be making sure to
twin up with organizations, communities and
schools on their environmental projects and
programs. With Greedy For Green, we will make
sure that all this comes under one umbrella.
So everything (environmental) that the ECFH
Group does will come under the Greedy For Green
campaign.” |

The brief launch, hosted by
Bank of St. Lucia Bridge Street staff, was
one with a difference. Seated in the mildly
Air conditioned fifth floor boardroom, invitees
who had a full view of a projector displaying
the launch’s proceedings, were somewhat
perplexed by the lack of printed programs.
Later on, Hippolyte explained that the lack
of print outs and mild air Conditioning, was
in keeping with the Greedy For Green theme,
which promoted conservation and protection
of resources. This gained a few chuckles all
round yet it did not take away from the serious
point made.
The ECFH Assistant Manager also affirmed that
from now on at the work place, ECFH employees
will put into practice double-sided printing,
and most, if not all, faxes will be electronic.
The aim is to preserve resources, natural
and man-made.
As part of its external environmental efforts,
ECFH has teamed up with some organizations
of the local private sector, namely, the St.
Lucia Blind Welfare Association and the Boys
Training Center. In an exclusive with The
Voice, Hippolyte outlined some of the details
on some of the various projects.
“Part of the Greedy For Green Campaign
involves beautifying premises and improving
the physical space of certain places. ECFH
has worked with The St. Lucia Blind Welfare
Association, improving their premises. With
the Boys Training Center, in particular, we
hope to start a project that would involve
recycling tyre. Using tyres to make tyre art
and creating receptacles, to encourage the
sustainable use of tyres, is a good way to
alleviate the problem of tires in our landfill
and other areas.”
It is believed that in this way, the boys
can learn a skill and at the same time, contribute
to conserving the environment. Plans for this
particular project are underway and Hippolyte
and the ECFH team are working hard to bring
them to fruition.
