Dennery’s True Colors
By Sherlana Ernest

An anxious crowd amassed on the grounds of the Dennery Multi-purpose Center as the Dennery Cultural and Performing Arts Group put its best foot forward last Monday, showing off skills in dance, song, music, drama, and poetry. After having experienced an ‘Expose of the Arts’, there is no doubt that Dennery possesses major talent.
Though the Dennery Cultural and Performing Arts Group falls under the Dennery Development Foundation (D.D.F.), it is a group primarily funded by SEQUA, a German company. Yet, according to D.D.F. Secretary, Perpetua James, the foundation has always been interested in harnessing the energies of young people, and Dennery residents at large.
James elaborated further, saying, “This project seeks to provide an avenue for interested individuals to be creative as a means of self-development. The participants were trained for an estimated three months in the areas of dance (contemporary and traditional), song, music, drama, and poetry.”
In terms of the Dennery Cultural and Performing Arts Group, Expose of the Arts, its recent event, may just become an annually spectre. The group is slated to perform at upcoming community activities and other special occasions, which is all in an effort to promote village tourism in the Dennery basin.

Also, the intended aim of the project is to generate needed income to particpants, and efforts are being made in that regard.
For most certain, D.D.F. could be described as a foundation that “continues in its efforts to empower residents by making available various training programs, namely the Associate of Business Executive (A.B.E) Dip., and Certificate level.”
James explained that this programme is done in collaboration with the N.R.D.F: NELU and provides a number of courses in technical as well as academic fields. Presently, such programmes have appealed to hundreds of participants, and informal training through discussions and other methods, are ongoing.
The Dennery Development Foundation is an established NGO, and comprises of a wide range of volunteers, who in turn, manage several social activities on a community level. The foundation is also a major partner in the SFA Eco Agro Tourism project, which entails the upgrade of the two Stop centers managed by the D.D.F., as well as the development of the Village Tourism product for Dennery North and South.
