Winfresh
And Geest Lines Sail To The Rescue Of Haiti
Responding
to the needs of the people of Haiti following
the recent earthquake, geest line and Winfresh
have extended an open offer of free shipping
of aid to them. The companies have offered to
provide free shipping space from the UK and
the Windward islands in order to facilitate
the shipment of aid cargo if it is made available
for shipment and presented at the loadports.
In a brief statement, Bernard Cornibert, chief
executive of Winfresh, reminded the media that
“geest line, which is 50% owned by Winfresh,
has been serving the Caribbean region since
the 1950’s and both companis, as corporate
citizens, are acutely aware of the need to provide
assistance to the region in times of crisis”.
The assistance provided via geest line has been
gratefully received on several occasions in
the Windward Islands over the years and most
recently following hurricane ivan which hit
Grenada in 2004.
Said Mr. Cornibert, “the intention is
to ship the aid cargo into the Dominican republic
and then move it by road across the border into
Haiti.”
Geest line calls at Port Manzanillo in Haiti’s
neighbouring state, the Dominican Republic,
on a weekly basis.
