Windjammer Wins with “Mange Gwanmaman”

Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort has a well-deserved reputation for impeccable and warm service and gourmet dining. Its international, regional, St. Lucian vacationers and property owners, truly enjoy an ambiance like none other. Windjammer has been known for their versatility and uniqueness in food preparation, with the use of local ingredients, some grown in their own back yard garden.
On Sunday 25th July 2010 the resort took part in the “Rhythm and Spice festival” which was held at Beausejour Cricket Grounds. The festival coincided with the Homecoming promotion which was designed to attract St. Lucians living overseas to come back home, at least for a little while. Several hotels and restaurants participated in the culinary showcase which was the main attraction of the festival.
Windjammer’s culinary team headed by Chef Bill, designed a menu around the theme, “Mange Gwanmaman” (Granny’s Cooking).

Chef Bill’s passion for cooking began twenty-five years ago as head chef in the south & western pacific, and he has held the position of “Culinary Director” at the Windjammer Landing for the past 3 years. Chef Bill confesses that he has enjoyed cooking with the local ingredients of the island, and since being introduced to some special herbs, has encouraged his team to use as much local ingredients as possible in food preparation. The team’s strength in use of local ingredients was showcased as the judges sampled foods from all the various booths and observed preparation and adherence to proper hygiene. At the end of the day, Windjammer walked away with the top prize of “Overall Winner” as well as “Cleanest Booth” and “Best Team Spirit”.
“Utilizing local ingredients and old style recipes, traditional coal pots and the cooking skills of chefs who have worked at Windjammer for twenty years was the key to our success,” says Chef Bill Munn. “I am very proud of our team and the results, but the award that means the most to me is “Best Team Spirit”, he added.
World Travel Awards voted Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort & Spa as “St. Lucia’s Leading Hotel for 2008”.
