Surveyors assist St. Jude Hospital Rebuilding

The Institute of Surveyors earlier this month (Tuesday August 17th, 2010) made a monetary contribution of $5000.00 to the St. Jude Hospital Rebuilding Fund. The hospital is a secondary health care facility located in Vieux Fort, in the southern part of St. Lucia – approximately 40 miles from the capital city of Castries. The facility of government owned and was severely damaged by fire almost one year ago (September 2009). It currently serves a population of about 68,000 and before the fire operated with approximately eighty-eight (88) beds.
The team of surveyors from the Institute travelled to the George Odlum Stadium – the present location of the St. Jude Hospital on the Castries Vieux Fort Highway.

 
 

They were met by three members of the management team, namely Mr. Fitzpatrick Gilkes – Human Relations Manager (who deputised for Dr, Chierry Poyotte, the CEO on vacation leave); Mrs Verna Charles – Nursing Director and Ms Germaine Isaac – Acting accountant.
The St. Jude Hospital management team thanked the Surveyors for the financial assistance and assured them that despites the setbacks caused by the fire, the hospital continues to provide a range of health care services from internal medicine to emergency outpatient clinics utilising and supported by an international crew of specialist volunteers.
The surveyors were reprsnted at the meeting by their Vice President – Mr. Winsbert Felix, accompanied by Mr. Clive HIppolyte – General Secretary, and Mr. Tedburt THeobalds – Public Relations Assistant. The Institute of Surveyors (St. Lucia) is a registered non-profit professional organisation representing a cadre of land, quantity, valuation, and building surveyors in St. Lucia.
Members of the Institute are bound by provisions laid out in code of conduct and will meat enext month (September 25th, 2010) at the Ministry of Communications and Works, Union for the Annual General Meeting and to chart their way forward in the coming year. (T.R.T.)
