Saint Lucian Bernice Lina Robinson from Mon Repos has been named as one of six students to be valedictorians at one of this year’s graduation ceremonies of the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine campus, Trinidad.
The graduation ceremonies are to be held October 27th, 28th and 29th, 2011.
Robinson will speak on the morning of Thursday October 27th at the Faculty of Science and Agriculture ceremony, the first of six ceremonies to be held at the St. Augustine campus this year.
Robinson will graduate with a BSc degree (First Class Honours) majoring in Geography and Environmental Resource Management.
The fourth of five children of Linus and Bernadette Robinson, teacher and small business owner respectively, she attended the Micoud Secondary School graduating as the Valedictorian and Most Outstanding Student.
She later moved to the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, Division of Arts, Science and General Studies.
A former Commonwealth Youth Ambassador, UWISTAT Ambassador, St. Augustine Chapter, Public Relations Officer of LuSATT (Saint Lucian Students Association in Trinidad and Tobago, and an affiliate of the Mon Repos Youth and Sports Council. Robinson currently teaches geography at the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School, an area of study she always had a love for.

“I have always been interested in Geography and the Environment and have been an advocate for environmental protection and sustainable development for many years, so when the opportunity presented itself I grabbed it,” Robinson said.
She speaks highly of UWI noting that it represents a great opportunity for the commitment required for furthering Caribbean integration and unity and that it provides the avenue for the youth of the islands to learn, to un-learn and re-learn together.
“Also the UWI has had a legacy of excellence and has produced many academics from Saint Lucia,” Robinson said.
Robinson says she receives her inspiration from the wonders and mystery of everyday life and that small acts of heroics which hardly ever get noticed or recognized remind her of how every small and seemingly insignificant act contributes to the masterpiece.
Her most memorable moment at UWI was the massive outpouring of support on campus from faculty and students after Hurricane Tomas ravaged Saint Lucia last year.
Robinson wants to read for a Masters Degree in Environmental Law.
