Christiana’s passion
Ramia Thomas

Christiana Rigamonti, popularly known to many as Passion, is one of a few creative individuals who makes a living doing something she truly loves, Art. Though she was born in Italy, Passion has over the past 15 years adopted the humble island of Saint Lucia as her home.
Passion first lived in the picturesque town of Soufriere, where she found the Art business a bit slow. She, a few years later moved to Gros Islet where she now exhibits her work in her very own art studio and sells her items to several hotels and souvenir shops in the north.
After graduating from High School in 2005 she went on to study for three years to become an Art Teacher. She participated in several exhibitions in theatre and art and was sponsored to put on a few expositions in Italy. Passion then went on to work in Africa where she developed and taught Art programmes for children in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and Tanzania. There she fell in love with the Black continent and learned to love and
appreciate everything different from her homeland.
“I’ve always wanted to have something to do with Art. I took this subject very seriously at school because I wanted to know exactly how I could transmit to people who are interested in learning to explore their artistic side.

It is very important to express what you feel inside. Sometimes persons don’t think they are able to draw and never realize they have this talent till they try from within and convey any feeling hidden. Your life and emotions can be expressed on canvas. Through my travels I have found that all over the world, all children are in love with Art. When a child picks up a pencil for the first time to draw, it is like a whole new world to them,” Passion explained.
Passion came to the Caribbean where she found the Arts emancipating. In addition to her own work, she teaches two sessions of Art classes to youth from the age of 3-20 for an hour on afternoons.
“Art is good for people of all ages, especially children because it demands a lot of their attention, patience and concentration. I teach many kids and I find great pleasure in watching their progress each term. At first they may not take it seriously but as time goes by they become more dedicated and passionate about Art and strive towards perfecting their work each time. It no longer becomes a pastime to them but rather a real job. I have a maximum of seven children per class and I follow each child’s progress on their individual projects. When I was younger I use to draw a lot after high school I had to make a decision between Language, Classic, Mathematics or Art. I chose Art and discovered everything I learned was to me both a joy and a mission. I still find that when I go to work, I love what I do so much so that I don’t watch the clock but I just enjoy every second of what I’m doing because I love it,” Passion concluded.
