PURE DOCTRINE: The Significance of Jesus in the Ministry
The Old Testament Passover New Testament Lord’s Supper
Biblical date: 29th Abib, 2075

This weekend with more biblical proof we will refute the notion that the barley season is a main factor that helps determine the date of the Lord’s Supper. Then we will move on to address other misconceptions about the date of the Lord’s Supper. From the inception of the Passover it is evident that the Passover was observed in the wilderness for many years; forty years. During this forty year period the Israelites journeyed with the hope of one day reaching that land of Canaan, flowing with milk and honey. When the Israelites went through the wilderness they had no time to cultivate barley or any other plant since they did not settle but continued on their journey. Then would it be right to say that the Israelites did not keep the ordinance of the Passover for forty long years? Joshua 5: 6-12 enlightens us on how they managed on their journey. It reads “For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey. And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way. And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole. And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day. And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho. And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day. And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna anymore; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.”

Here we have evidence stating that the Israelites used old corn of the land, unleavened cakes and manna during Passover while they journeyed through the wilderness. There is no evidence of barley. It was unearthed in the later pages of the King James version bible that there are three seasons for barley: the Common, Winter and Spring. Here we have another controversy. How do the people know it was the Spring season (March or April) being referred to when the Israelites left Egypt. Many observe the Lord’s Supper in spring because this is the fixed time for the celebration of Easter. Christians observe Easter when they are not even aware of what this celebration commemorates. They believe that it is a celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus but it is actually a season paying homage to the goddess of spring, Ishtar. Pagans worsipped the rebirth of Tammuz, the son of the goddess Semiramis. This supporting quotation says the following “In the old fables of the Mystery cults, their ‘savior’ Tammuz, was worshipped with various rites at the Spring season. According to the legends, after he was slain [killed by a wild boar], he went into the underworld. But through the weeping of his mother… he mystically revived in the springing forth of the vegetation - in Spring! Each year a spring festival dramatically represented this supposed ‘resurrection’ from the underworld.” The Passover/Lord’s Supper is not a pagan practice. It is an ordinance between God and man. Dictionary.com defines the word ordinance as an authoritative rule or law; a decree or command; 2. an established rite or ceremony, a sacrament, the communion. Exodus 13: 9-10 tells us “And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, that the LORD’s law may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt. Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance in his season from year to year.”

To be continued. Have a blessed week.
