Pure Doctrine: The Biblical New Year
The Significance of the Lord’s Supper New Testament and Passover Old Testament
Biblical date: 7th Zif, 2073

This weekend before addressing the continuation of the article, we would like to note that the wrong biblical date was posted in last weekend’s paper. Last Sabbath was the 23rd and not the 24th of Abib. Today is the last Sabbath of the month Abib. With this we continue into the details of the article. After the washing of the feet then follows the breaking , sharing and eating of the body of Christ and finally the sharing and drinking of the fruit of the vine, which represents the blood of Christ. I Corinthians 11: 25-26 reads “After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death until he comes.” We have to observe the Lord’s Supper every year as we have been commanded to do. This emblem serves to remind us of how Jesus suffered for our sakes. It is evident in the scriptures that on Jesus’ command all the disciples drank the fruit of the vine. We must be obedient to the word in order to be guided appropriately. Matthew 6:24 reminds us that “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold on to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” Do not teach doctrine which is contrary to the word. Mark 14: 23-25 reads “And he took the cup when he had given thanks, he gave it to them and they all drank of it. And he said unto them, This is my body of the new testament which was shared for many. Verily, I say unto you I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until the day that I drink it new in the Kingdom of God .” Mark supports Corinthians and shows that all the disciples drank of the fruit of the vine on Jesus’ command. Any practice contrary to this is not of God.

The scriptures warn us to beware of contrary doctrines. Hebrew 13: 9 “Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines: for it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats which have not profited them that have been occupied.” 1 Timothy 4:1-2 also admonishes us to beware of false doctrines. It reads “Now the spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisies; having their conscience seared with a hot iron.” The devil’s doctrine is all doctrine which are contrary to the word of God. The scriptures are our guide and they are examples for us to follow. 2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” None of the scriptures should be overlooked or disregarded particularly when establishing doctrine.
The Lord’s Supper entails three main aspects which are all found and supported in the scriptures. These are the washing of the feet, the breaking of the bread and drinking the fruit of the vine. At the Lord’s Supper these occur in the order mentioned here on the 14th of Abib in the evening. It is important to note that all baptized members have a duty to partake of this emblem in its appointed time. John 6:53 reads “Then Jesus said unto them verily, verily I say unto, except ye eat of the flesh of the son of Man and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
